- If you are familiar with the strong verb paradigms and how weak root consonants behave, chapter 27 will not be too difficult for you.
- Please review the strong verb paradigms as well as the General Rules of Vowel Transformation (pp. 24–26) as needed.
- The "Angry Baker" Verbs (textbook, page 198)
- A few I-א verb have special forms in Qal Yiqtol. I-א quiesces and the vowel that goes with the preformatives becomes Holem, such as יֹאמַר.
- They are nicknamed “Angry Baker” verbs.
- I said (אמר),
- “I want (אבה) you
- to eat (אכל) whatever
- I bake (אפה), or
- I may seize (אחז) you, and (אחז not always)
- You will perish (אבד).”
- The Geminate verbs (Table 27.8 on page 203) may cause some trouble.
- The second root consonant is often assimilated to the third root consonant, becoming a dagesh forte (וַיָּסֹ֫בּוּ).
- Sometimes, both the first and the third consonants are doubled with a dagesh forte (וַיִּסֹּ֫בּוּ)!
